In the early 1900s, questions concerning the Creation of the earth and the theories of evolution became the subject of much public discussion. In the midst of these controversies, the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints issued a statement which expresses the Church’s doctrinal position on these matters in the a church publication called theImprovement Era (Nov. 1909, pp 75–81).
Today, the Mormon church does not give many public statements regarding evolution, but stands firmly behind the scripture:
“God created man in his own image” (Gen. 1:27).
