The 1956 Masters Tournament was contested from April 5 to April 8 at Augusta National Golf Club. It was the 20th Masters Tournament. This would be the last Masters played without a cut.
Jack Burke, Jr. shot a final round 71 which was one of only two under par rounds on Sunday, to rally from a Tournament record eight shots back and defeat amateur Ken Venturi who shot a final round of 80. Burke's 289, along with Sam Snead in 1954 and Zach Johnson in 2007, remains the highest winning total in Masters history.
