- First pole position for Rubens Barrichello and Jordan.
- In the light of the death of Ayrton Senna , a tyre chicane was installed at Eau Rouge to slow the cars.Heinz Harald Frentzen spun there while attempting to pass Rubens Barrichello early in the race , Barrichello's Jordan struggling to keep track position amongst clearly faster cars coming through having started on pole position.
- Michael Schumacher was stripped of his win in this race due to excessive wear on his Benetton's skid block[1] - this would indicate the car's ride height was too low and hence he had an illegal aerodynamic advantage.
