All you want to know about Aluku

The Aluku are a Maroon ethnic group living in the forested interior of Suriname, and the eponymous term for their language, which has less than 1,000 speakers. They are mostly descended from former slaves, although their culture displays plenty of Amerindian influences. The language is English-based with French and other influences. It is similar to the languages spoken by the Paramaccan and Kwinti. See also Ndyuka.
