Idol 2008 is the fifth season of the Swedish Idol series. Host is Peter Jihde who also hosted Idol 2007. The show premiered on TV4 on September 3, 2008.

On August 31 singer Charlotte Perrelli was a guest judge and coach on this season of Idol. Cyndi Lauper also made a guest appearance talking to the remaining Idols in a pre-recorded segment.

This years idol finale will be held at Globen Arena in Stockholm once again after hosting the Idol 2007 finale, that will make this years finale to the worlds largest Idol finale once more with a estimated audience of 16.000 people. Beating Australian Idols former record of most audience at a Idol finale.
