Coordinates: 13°05′05″N 80°13′04″E / 13.0846, 80.2179 Anna Nagar is one of the expensive residential localities in the metropolitan city of Chennai, India. It is one of the fastest developing parts of the city. In addition to being a popular residential area, Anna Nagar has become a busy commercial and educational center, a mini city within this large metropolitan area.

One of the main attractions in Anna Nagar is the Anna Tower. The Anna tower was built for the World Trade Fair. The large arch in the southern part of Anna Nagar called the Anna Arch was built in the 1980s, when Anna Nagar still had areas of undeveloped land.

Anna Nagar is a relatively newly developed part of the city. It lies on the banks of the river Cooum. The economic activities in Ambattur and the Ambattur Industrial Estate which are close to Anna Nagar have been responsible for the rapid development of the area. Anna Nagar is mostly a posh residential area with good schools and a large populace with high net worth. The real estate market in Anna Nagar has been sky-rocketing with an increase in land value doubling every half-year in the middle of the 2000 decade.

Fitness buffs come to the Anna Tower park, which is serene and beautiful to walk, jog, do yoga and socialise. A wide range of commercial establishments exist making Anna Nagar almost a self sufficient locality for residents. However, many of the older established luxury hotels of Chennai are outside the Anna Nagar area.

Anna Nagar, primarily a residential locality has recently become commercialised rapidly. The 1st Avenue, 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue are heavily commercialised with many major and international brands having their outlets here especially around Anna Nagar roundtana and Blue star which are important landmarks in Anna Nagar. More recently Shanthi Colony (4th Avenue) has been facing similar trends since the above-said places are saturated. The Shanthi colony (4th Avenue) connects the Anna Arch signal and Jawaharlal Nehru Salai. It is now considered to be one of the busy roads in Anna Nagar.

Roads in Anna Nagar are designed based on Matrix Structure. Matrix Structure is the standard format for laying roads in most developed countries. In Matrix Structure all the roads are laid parallel & perpendicular to each other. In addition a standard naming nomenclature is followed. In Anna Nagar, 2nd, 4th & 6th Avenues run East-West & 1st, 3rd, 5th & 7th Avenues run North South. All the streets are interconnected to these avenues.

The locality does experiences fewer traffic delays owing to the broad roads and traffic signals at major intersections. Driving through Anna Nagar can be scenic with the broad roads and shady avenue trees. Bounded by Poonamallee High Road and Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, the locality is well connected to the rest of the city. The Chennai Central Station is about 8km from Anna Nagar while the airport is about 12 km to the south. Anna Nagar is very close to the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) thereby making it one of the well connected places in the city.

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Anna Nagar

It was first found in the same campus as the above school in 1983 when Anna Nagar required a Matriculation/ State Board affiliated school with standards as high as the SBOA CBSE. It was later moved to its present location behind the Anna Nagar bus terminus in 1994.

State Bank of India Officers' Association (SBIOA) Model Matriculation and Higher Secondary School

Valliammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School
