Bains is gotra of Jats and in some cases claim to be Rajput found in Punjab, India and Punjab, Pakistan. Today there are numerous villages with the name Bains in both Indian and Pakistani Punjab. Bains is one of the surnames mentioned in the epic Heer written by Waris Shah. According to Heornle and Cunningham, Harshavardhana belonged to this clan. He is connected with Shrimalpur which is a village on the border of Hoshiarpur and Jullundhar districts in Punjab and is nowadays called Māhalpur. Even today it is inhabited by Bains clan of Jats. [1] They are mentioned in Mahabharata along with Khatkal, Karaskar, Mahishaka, Karkana and Viraka. Bains is one of 36 royal clans in India along with Salar, Dahima etc. [2]

Bains never attack snakes. And its a strong belief that snakes never bite Bains. Bains ancestors are very strict with rules. Bains ancestors have strictly ordered not to give money on lease, never take anything on credit, never abuse bains daughters, never allow girls to touch feet, respect elders and ancestors.
