Coordinates: Bhiwani is a city and a municipal council in Bhiwani district in the state of Haryana, India. It is known as the city of temples. Besides being a seat of spiritual learning, the city has been the centerstage of regional politics. The city is hometown to three of Haryana's chief ministers: Bansi Lal, Babu Gupta, and Hukum Chand.
District Bhiwani was created on 22 July, 1972. The district headquarter is situated in Bhiwani town. Bhiwani has 442 villages, with main towns being Charkhi Dadri, Loharu, Bawani Khera and Tosham. The total area of Bhiwani district is 5,099 km² and its population is 14,24,000
The city has been a conventional school of boxing, with almost all of the members of the Indian Boxing Squad coming from its SAI hostel itself. Late Capt Hawa Singh, the legendary boxer, helped establish the boxing academy here.

In the field of education, the city boasts of two engineering colleges, one of them being the country's top textile research institute, The Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences, established by the Birla Group. For more information, see Bhiwani District. Further, there are four degree colleges, three colleges of education and a school of nursing. The Board of School Education, Haryana (Shiksha Board) is also situated in the city.

Railways
Bhiwani Junction is a major railway station in the region. There are 3 railway lines originating from Bhiwani one is towards northern side. This line connecting the Bhiwani to cities like Hansi, Hisar, Sirsa (in Haryana) and Bathinda, Ferozpur etc (in Punjab) The Second line towards south side connect the Bhiwani with Charkhi Dadri, Kosli and Rewari (in Haryana) which further connect to Gurgaon and Delhi in Northern side and Jaipur-Alwar in southern side. The 3rd branch line of Railways go towards Rohtak and connecting to Delhi.
Roads
The city is very well connected through state roadways with all the major towns in the region. The city is a chosen favorite as the site for a proposed international airport in the National Capital's proximity to ease operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi.
Bhiwani District came into existence on July 22nd, 1972 and is named after the administrative city of Bhiwani. At present, it is the biggest district in the province. There are 6 tehsils in Bhiwani.

Bhiwani city is mentioned in Ain-e-Akbari. It was founded by a Rajput King Neem after his wife named Bhani. The Bhani word letter changed to Bhiyani and subsequently to Bhiwani. Bhiwani has been a prominent center of commerce since the time of the Mughals. Bhiwani is also known for its temples and is known as the "Small Kashi" of India because of numerous temples. Gauri Shankar temple of Bhiwani is known throughout the country.
Bhiwani is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 225 metres (738 feet). District Bhiwani is situated between 28.19 deg. & 29.05 deg. North latitude and 75.26 deg. & 76.28 deg. East longitude. The Bhiwani District is bordered by Hissar District on its north, some area of Jhunjunu & Churu District of Rajasthan on its west, Mahendergarh and Jhunjunu District on its south and District Rohtak to the east. It is 124 kilometers from Delhi & 285 kilometers from Chandigarh.
Devsar-Dham "Jai Ma Bhawani
Bhiwani was considered a deserted place. Farming could be done with the help of rain. Thus, after every two or three years there would be a drought. Men, women, animals and birds suffered due to lack of water and greenery. Things changed when in 1893 a canal was first built in Bhiwani. It was a religious region, and gradually the people of this region started taking part in politics and the Indian struggle for independence.Pt.Neki Ram Sharma, Master Fateh Chand, K.A. Desai and Babu Gupta opened a branch of the Congress party here in 1919.
In 1922 India's seekers of freedom society took part in the Bardoli Satyagraha. They were Neki Sharma, Uma Sharma, Ram Kumar, Gokul Chand , Fateh Chand , Lala Vith, Lala Karanji ,Diwan Chand, Lala Moda etc. Neki Sharma Later known as Haryana Kesri.
In those days Bhiwani was visited by Pt. Nehru two times, Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya two times and Mahatma Gandhi two times. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lala Lajpat Rai, Sh. Subash Chandra Bose, Smt. Sarojini Naidu, Dr. Munje, Dr. Ansari, Sh. Asif Ali, Ali Bandhu and Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Khan also came to Bhiwani, took meetings and praised Bhiwani's people for their taking part in the independence war. Sonia Gandhi visited Bhiwani on 28th November, 2007 at Bheem Stadium.
Bhiwani came to the limelight in 2008 as four of the five boxers who represented India at the 2008 Summer Olympics are from Bhiwani. Sports Authority of India coach and boxer Jagdish Singh has been credited with making the Bhiwani Boxing Club, or "BBC" as it is known locally, a powerhouse of Indian Boxing.[2] The Academy was established by the legendary Indian boxer, two time Asian Games gold medallist and 11 time national champion, Captain Hawa Singh. Among the 2008 olympians, Jitender Kumar (Flyweight) (51kg) and Akhil Kumar (54kg) went on to qualify for the quarter finals, while Vijender Kumar (75kg) won a Bronze medal. Bhiwani is known as Little Cuba in India due to the large number of boxers who hail from the region. [4]
As of 2001[update] India census[5], Bhiwani had a population of 169,424. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Bhiwani has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 76% and female literacy of 62%. 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
