Supernatural healing is an umbrella term for a family of treatment methods which use claimed revelations rather than empirical evidence as their foundation. All supernatural healing methods assume substance dualism, and that the symptoms of illness are a manifestation of sickness of the hypothetical nonphysical substance. The language used to describe this other substance varies, but common examples are spirit, soul, qi, chakra, or human energy field. Many, but not all, supernatural healing methods request the intervention of a nonhuman supernatural being or beings. Because of the lack of reliable evidence supporting either substance dualism or any supernatural healing method, these methods remain controversial.
