Chhalia is a 1960 Hindi film. Directed by Manmohan Desai it stars Raj Kapoor, Nutan, Pran, Rehman and Shobhna Samarth. Raj Kapoor plays his almost patented "simple guy with a heart of gold" role again in this film. Laxmikant Pyarelal were assistant music directors in this film. They would go on to be music directors for most of Manmohan Desai's films. The film is loosely based on White Nights (short story) written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.[1] "Chhalia" was shot on black and white film.
This film is not to be confused with another film, also titled Chhalia (1973), but unrelated to the 1960 film. The 1973 film was shot in color, and it stars Nanda, Navin Nischol, and Shatrughan Sinha. It was directed by Mukul Dutt, and music was by R.D. Burman.
