History

This village was exempted from taxes in 1429 by king Charles VII. This was done because Joan of Arc asked for it as she felt that taxes exploited her villagers. Moreover, the king wanted to do a good deed for her successful efforts to get rid of the English. However after the French Revolution Domrémy was required to pay taxes.[citation needed]
