Dunwoody High School is located at 5035 Vermack Road in the newly incorporated city of Dunwoody, a suburb of Atlanta in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States.

Dunwoody, with students attending in grades 9-12, follows a four by four hybrid block schedule, in which students attend four classes every day for 90 minutes. The school is operated by the DeKalb County School System.

Dunwoody serves unincorporated areas and sections of Doraville.

In the school year of 1988, Dunwoody merged with another local high school, Peachtree. Peachtree became a middle school and Dunwoody remained as the high school. Dunwoody's previous colors were crimson and gold and their mascot was the Wildcats. Peachtree's colors were red, white, and blue and their mascot was the Patriots. As part of a compromise between the two schools due to the merger, Dunwoody agreed to change its colors to red, white, and blue. Dunwoody would keep the mascot of wildcats. Dunwoody previously had 8th grade before the merger.

Mission Statement

We will educate the young men and women who pass through these doors as lifelong learners, efficient workers and productive citizens, appreciative and tolerant of diversity in a rapidly changing society. We promise a safe, orderly, structured and supportive environment wherein we shall recognize, accept and adapt to individual needs and difference. Finally, we shall promote among our students a sense of community, of service, and of harmony, which they will take with them into their future – the future of our nation.

Vision Statement

Dunwoody High School's Vision Statement is summarized in the word PRIDE: Personal Responsibility In Developing Exellence members working in conjunction with the school to address the academic, social, and emotional needs of the students

Career Academies

Dunwoody High School offers two career academies through the National Academy Foundation program. The academies prepare students for future careers through a combination of school-based curricula and work-based experiences, which include paid internships.

• The Academy of Finance is a two-year program in which students gain specialized preparation in the field of finance while completing their normal course curriculum. Students practice real world activities while preparing marketing plans for products and competing in financial competitions. Business partners from the community visit the class and work with the students to prepare them for their future. Each year, the academy students visit the New York Mercantile Exchange, the Stock Exchange, and an investment bank to get an up close and personal experience on how the world’s largest financial center operates.

• The Academy of Mass Communications is a two-year program which offers students the opportunity to build an educational foundation for a future in the communications industry. The program introduces the students to all facets of the journalism industry (broadcast journalism, print journalism, and speech). Students receive hands-on training in video production with the use of our fifteen Final Cut Pro editing systems and have the chance to work on interview techniques and newspaper layout, as well as produce a daily news program shown over the closed circuit television system. Each year, the academy students visit NBC in New York to see first hand how one of the world’s largest broadcasting companies operates.

Achievements

Fine Arts

• The orchestra performs every spring at the GMEA Festival for Dekalb County, and every year receives the highest marks.

Sports

• The cross country team finished 16th at state, both 6th at region and county for the Fall 2006 season, as well as a 5th place finish at county in 2005.

State Championships

• Football- 1 (1993)
• The most notable athletic achievement in football was when the team went 15-0 and won the state championship in 1993 under head coach David Kelly. The Wildcats finished the season ranked #4 in the nation. Following this season Kelly left Dunwoody to be an assistant coach at the University of Georgia.

• Baseball- 1 (2007)
• The most notable athletic achievement in baseball was when the team went 34-4 and swept powerhouse Columbus High School on June 1, 2007. Senior David Port pitched the first game a 7 to 5 victory. Sophomore Grant Hillis pitched the 2nd game a 6 to 0 gem. The Cats received offensive help from every one in the lineup. This was the DeKalb County's first championship in baseball since defunct Henderson Mill High won in 1974. Final national baseball polls ranked the wildcats as high as #18 in the nation.

• Basketball- 3 (1995, 2005, 2006)
• The most notable athletic achievements in boy's basketball were a perfect 30-0 season and state championship in 1995. The basketball team narrowly missed another shot at a perfect season and state title in 2004, losing their only game of the season at the Final Four and finishing 29-1. That team went on to win the And 1 High School national championship in June 2004 and back to back state titles in 2005 and 2006. Two players from those teams are currently playing major Division 1 basketball, An'Juan Wilderness, UNC-Charlotte and Zac Swansey, University of Georgia. Three players from the 2007-2008 team that reached the Final Four will also be playing major Division 1 basketball, Pierre Jordan, Florida State, Delwan Graham, LSU and Chris Singleton, a McDonald's All-American, Florida State.

• The football team has had two high school All Americans in quarterback Billy Ray in 1985 and defensive tackle Travis Stroud in 1993. Ray signed a scholarship with the University of Alabama and Stroud signed a scholarship with the University of Georgia. Ray transferred to Duke and completed his college career there.
• Dexter Jackson, a 2004 graduate of Dunwoody, went on to play football for Appalachian State University from '04 to '08. He was drafted to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the 27th pick in the second round (58th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.
• Shaina M. Freeman, a 2006 graduate, starred in Gullah Gullah Island as a child.
