Engineers are a British rock band, composed of Simon Phipps (vocals/guitars), Mark Peters (vocals/guitars), Dan MacBean (guitars/keyboard) and Sweeney (drums).
Engineers is a Dream pop band formed in London in March 2003. The band's sound is often described as a mixture of psychedelia, shoegazing and post-rock, though they themselves claim their influences range from The Cocteau Twins to Curtis Mayfield[citation needed]. Sweeney has remarked that "We've always said if more people started taking acid we'd clean up".
They were signed to the record label Echo Records, and released their eponymous debut album in 2005. Whilst in the process of mixing the follow up, they split with Echo and their future is uncertain. Also in 2005 they recorded a version of Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren" for the 2005 tribute album Dream Brother: The Songs of Tim and Jeff Buckley.
On 4 February 2008 Mark Peters, the band's bassist, posted this message on their bands forum:
"Here's what's happening - The second album will be released digitally in the first half of the year. When i have a date, i'll post it. As far as splitting up goes, no we haven't, but we aren't working on a fully formed project at the moment. Some of us have been working together in various projects for around fifteen years, and at various intervals we have taken breaks from working together, but always come back together. Sorry for not having anything concrete to tell you, but that's the situation at the moment"
On 29 August 2008 Mark Peters, posted a message with some new information about their 2nd record:
"Hello. It's been a while, I know. After finishing the album and it not coming out we all went off and did our own things, but have all have kept in touch and are proud of the music we made. Early this year we were approached by the dj Sasha to remix one of the tracks from our second album for inclusion on his album invol2ver. We think he's done a great job with it and as soon as it is ok to post it we'll put it on the music player. Thanks to everyone who has sent messages to us asking about releases - we are still looking into this and if and when we find the right way to put out the second album, we will. For the meantime we'll gradually put up all of the tracks from it along with bits and bats that we'd like you to hear from deep within the cavernous archive..."
