Environmental preservation is the strict setting aside of natural resources for their aesthetic value rather than letting them be modified for economic gain.[1]

John Muir, an early American conservationist, is regarded as a preservationist. Apart from its use as a pejorative term for environmentalists "preservation" or "preservationist" in the context of conservation or environmentalism is now rarely used.
