Gastein Convention

All you want to know about Gastein Convention

The Gastein Convention was a treaty signed in Bad Gastein on August 14, 1865 between the two principal powers of the German Confederation, Prussia and Austria, over the governing of the provinces of Schleswig and Holstein obtained by the Confederation from Denmark in the Second War of Schleswig the year before.

The Gastein Convention collapsed due to the efforts of Prussian Chancellor Otto von Bismarck to provoke a war with Austria, and eliminate Austria from the German Confederation. These efforts led to the Austro-Prussian War, also known as the Seven Weeks' War, the following year.
