A harbi Arabic:حربي literally "one under a declaration of war") is a non-Muslim, who does not live under Muslim rule, as opposed to dhimmi.
The modern interpretation of Islam, as practices by the majority of Muslims today, does not recognize such terms. Only Islamic militants and those seeking to propagate violent forms of Islam (usually non-Muslims) recognize such terms.
The Harbi is the inhabitant of the dar al-harb house of war. A harbi has no rights, not even the right to live. If a harbi wants to enter the territory of Islam (dar al-islam) he needs a safe-conduct called aman.[citation needed]
