The city of Havelian (also spelt Havellian) is located at the westernmost end of the Karakoram Highway, this highway connects Havelian to the ancient Silk Road and provides an important link to China.
It is the second largest municipality in Abbottabad District, in what used to be the Hazara District of the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan.

The views in this area are quite scenic due to the topography of the land, 7 km away from Havelian is the Neelan or Ninlan valley, know locally as the 'Queen of beautiful valleys'. The Ninlaan Valley is located on the Lora Road in Abbottabad District. Most of the people of this valley are from Pashtun and Karlal tribes. Along this valley runs the Neelan stream, the origins of this stream are in the Nara Hills through which the streams seems to have cut the valley over time. The waters and streams that flow from the Nara Hills are important to the villages of the Neelan Valley (such as Sareela, Chamnaka, Punjgraan, Sultanpur, Sulhwala, Mala Wazir etc).
Other famous villages are Banda Sahib Khan, Havelian Village,Chamnaka, Kashka, Janghra, Langra, Rajoya, Bandi Atai Khan, Namli Mera & Gari Phulgran.
Most of the people living in Havelian speak Hindko. Many of them are Hindko speaking Pathans.
Tribes are, Karlal, Awan,Qureshi, Malik , Sheikhs & Syeds.and also living pathan tribes(Tanoli,Jadoon),

Havelian's main public transport consist of modified Suzukis, which can accommodate anywhere from 8 to 13 people at one time. Taxis are also available as well as wagons which connect Havelian to the surrounding cities and towns in the region.
Havelian is the terminus of a branch railway, in February 2007, consultants were engaged to investigate the construction of a railway link to China. The line would go via the 4,730m-high Khunjerab pass[1] Hassan Aziz Havelian
