His first taste of UK chart success was with his collaboration with Rishi Rich and Juggy D. The song, "Dance With You (Nachna Tere Naal)" became a top twenty hit. Sean secured a one million pounds record deal with Virgin Records. His second single, "Eyes on You", became a top ten hit, peaking at number six. His third single "Stolen", and his biggest hit to date, peaked at number four. Bollywood actress, Bipasha Basu made an appearance in the video. His début album, Me Against Myself was released and received much critical praise and acclaim. The album became a commercial success, not only in the UK, but abroad as well. In India it became a substantial hit, selling more than two million copies. He made a brief appearance in the Bollywood flick 'Kya Kool Hai Hum', and providing the song "Dil Mera (One Night)" to the soundtrack (a music video accompanied the song's appearance). In February 2006, after several delays of his second album, he left Virgin Records. The label says, his Hip Hop style is not the sort of direction they want from Sean.
After parting ways with Virgin Records Jay Sean returned in late 2007 with new single "Ride It". It was the first single from his second album My Own Way (originally provisionally titled Deal With It). The album will be released as a joint venture between his own label Jayded and 2Point9 records. The video for the single was shot on the 12 August 2007 in the central London nightclub Mo*Vida. On 28 September 2007, the video was exclusively available to watch on 3G mobile handsets and on 9 October 2007 was officially released to the internet by 2Point9 Records. The new video featured Jay Sean with a new style after being out of the limelight for nearly three and a half years. My Own Way was released on May 12, 2008 and débuted at number 6 on the UK Album Charts.
"Ride It" was originally due for release at the fall of 2007, but due to major radio stations offering to playlist the track if it was pushed back until early 2008, the single was released on 21 January 2008. The song produced by Alan Sampson [1] became Song of the Week on London's Kiss 100 Radio on 10 December 2007 and was also playlisted on Capital FM, Choice FM, Galaxy, BBC 1xtra, and being featured on BBC Radio 1's B-list. It reached the number 1 spot on MTV's The Base Chart Show.
At the 2008 UK Asian Music Awards (AMA), Jay Sean walked away with double honours after being presented with the 2008 - UK Asian Music Award for both Best Video (Ride It) and Best Urban Act. He went on to perform "Ride It" and "Maybe".[2]
Jay Sean co-hosted London radio station Choice fm's Breakfast show for a week during the month of August. During which he exclusively performed a previously unheard track. The track has been leaked to the video sharing site youtube [3]
