Plot Summary

The story is about a gang which does shady deals. One such deal promises to make the group a lot of money, but one member of the gang has his own secret plans, leading to unforeseen situations for the group. In the opening credits the movie is dedicated to James Hadley Chase (besides Vijay Anand), and while the story is not based on any of his novels, it does follow a somewhat similar plotline. Director Sriram Raghavan has exercised the same genre as his previous venture Ek Hasina Thi.

In the story, five regular partners are going for a deal splitting profit five ways as usual. It is all fine until one of guys, Vikram (played by Neil Mukesh) wants it all for himself and plans to elope with his mistress (played by Rimi Sen). The plan could not be executed without problems and none of the members of the group is a rookie.

In the movie, the viewer knows, at the very outset, who the actual traitor is, but his partners-in-crime don't. The protogonist finds himself forced to eliminate one member of the group after the other. Just when it seems that he is in the clear, there is a twist in the plot.

Trivia

  • When all the gang members sit together to count money using automatic counting machines, the crew had to use original currency worth INR 25 Lakhs. It was needed because the counting machine automatically detects fake notes and throws them out.
  • However, the automatic note counting machine did not reject the counterfeit notes supplied by Prakash, which is later revealed by Naidu's sharp vision.
  • There are numerous references to James Hadley Chase within the film, the lead character himself is seen holding a copy of one of Chase's books.
  • One character is seen watching Eyes Wide Shut, Kubrick's final film.
  • At the lobby of a hotel room, the receptionist is seen watching the Bollywood movie Johnny Mera Naam, starring Dev Anand. It is from a scene of that movie that this one gets its title.
  • The film gives multiple references to Amitabh Bachchan classic Parwaana and also shows scenes of a major plot sequence of the movie.
  • Red colour is used predominantly in the movie, as a homage to Sin City. Raghavan himself had confessed to having resisted the temptation of shooting the whole movie in Black and White.
  • While dying, Dharmendra plays the song " Mera Gora Rang Le Le" - his favourite song sung by his wife in the movie, which is from the movie Bandini in which Dharmendra himself has acted alongside Nutan in 1963.
