This is a list of cities in Scandinavia by population. The population is measured on a national level, independently by each statistical bureau. Statistics Sweden uses the term tätort (urban settlement), Statistics Denmark uses byområde (city), while Statistics Norway uses tettsted (urban settlement). In Denmark and Sweden, these terms are defined as a continuous built-up area whose population is at least 200 inhabitants and where the maximum distance between residences is 200 metres. In Norway, the maximum distance is 50 meters, but distances up to 400 meters is used in certain circumstances. Many urban areas throughout Scandinavia have witnessed conurbation and grown together. This is particularly true for the larger cities.
