Location

The Maniktala crossing is the intersection of Vivekananda Road and Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road — two main thoroughfares in north Kolkata. The adjacent area is known as Maniktala.

Etymology

Maniktala gets its name from "manik pir" a mosque located in the vicinity.

Landmarks

The Central Blood Bank of West Bengal Government is located at the Maniktala crossing. So is one of oldest markets of Kolkata, the Maniktala Bazar, easily identified by the clock tower. Maniktala Bazar is famous for its fresh fish and produce. Maniktala is the Heart of North Kolkata from here you can explore North Kolkata. All facilities are available here. From Maniktala you can avail all types transportations to travel any part of the City. Nearest Metro Railway Station is Girish Park.

Politics

Maniktala is part of Calcutta North East (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]
