Maulana Azad National Urdu University is a Central University located in the city of Hyderabad in South India. It was named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India's first Minister of Education, a great Nationalist, Freedom Fighter in India's struggle for Independence, and an erudite scholar of Islam and Urdu literature. The University was established by an Act of the Parliament in January 1998, with an All India Jurisdiction. The mandate of the University is to promote Urdu language, provide higher and vocational education through Urdu medium and focus on women's education.
The University has a Directorate of Distance Education where around 70,000 students are on roll in various courses (B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com) all over India and abroad.
The University has Nine Regional Centers, Five Sub-Regional Centers and 118 Study Centers in various states in India. The University has Examination Center at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The University has a Computer Center established as part of the UGC X plan. Mr. Mohammed Zahid Shaik, System Analyst and Mr. Abdul Muqsit khan, Lecturer CS&IT, under the guidance of Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Registrar has put all efforts in the establishment of Computer Center.
