Peshawar is a district in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan. Until divisions were abolished as part of local government reforms in 2000 it was part of Peshawar Division. The city of Peshawar, as well as being the provincial capital, is the capital of the district.

The original district of Peshawar was a district of the North-West Frontier Province of British India.[3] At independence in 1947 the old Peshawar District became Peshawar Division, containing the current district of Peshawar.
