Kapoor family
Born to actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, Kapoor is the great grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor and the grandson of actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor. He is the brother of Riddhima Kapoor and his uncles are Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor. Other notable family members include Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Nikhil Nanda, all of whom are his cousins.
Before becoming an actor, Kapoor studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.[1]
Kapoor is currently dating model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone, his co-star in Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008).[2]
Career
Before starting off his career as an actor, Kapoor worked as an assistant to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, where he was involved in the making of the film Black (2005). Kapoor later made his acting debut in November 2007 with Bhansali's Saawariya opposite newcomer Sonam Kapoor. The film failed to do well at the box office,[3] though he received many positive reviews for his portrayal of the lovesick singer, Ranbir Raj. Critic Taran Adarsh commented, "Ranbir Kapoor is supremely talented, no two opinions on that. Yes, he looks handsome, but what you carry home is the sincerity in his performance. If that's the [high] level of performance in his debut film, this lad will only make the Kapoor clan proud in years to come. It's a 10 on 10 for this debutante [sic]."[4]
Kapoor was then seen in Siddharth Anand's Bachna Ae Haseeno, which released on August 15, 2008. The film did reasonably well, therefore acquiring a semi-hit status at the box office.[5] As of September 2008, he is filming for Rajkumar Santoshi's Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani opposite Katrina Kaif.[6] Kapoor's other forthcoming projects include Wake up Sid, where he will be seen opposite Konkona Sen Sharma. The film is directed by Ayaan Mukherjee and produced by Karan Johar
