Rawatbhata is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 325 metres (1066 feet).
As of 2001 India census[2], Rawatbhata had a population of 34,677. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Rawatbhata has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 65%. In Rawatbhata, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
In 1960s , due to the location of this remote place on Chambal river and least resistance by local tribal communities , this place was chosen for building Nuclear Power Plant with support from Canadian based AECL.
Rana Pratap Sagar dam on Chambal River is located near the town. The dam has power generation capability. It also supports a road connecting Rawatbhata to a near by township ,Vikram Nagar located on a picturesque small hill.
Baroli Temples at near by Baroli village are one of the oldest temple complexes (9th century AD) in Rajasthan.
Another place of interest are the ruins of Bhainsroad Garh fort overlooking the confluence of river Chambal and Bamni.
Nuclear power generating facility called Rajastan Atomic Power Project(RAPP) and operated by Nuclear Power Corporation of India is located near Rawatbhata. Heavy Water Plant is also located at Rawatbhata, for the purpose of supplying heavy water for Power Generation with Natural Uranium.
