STAR World is an Asian English language cable and satellite television owned by STAR TV. The channel is the successor of STAR Plus, which is now an Indian Hindi/Urdu language entertainment channel. Star World syndicates several popular shows from the United States and United Kingdom to appeal to the English-speaking population of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

History

Before STAR World, STAR Plus was STAR's English language entertainment channel which has started its operations on 1992 and its Hindi counterpart is Zee TV. But after STAR ended their partnership with Zee TV (now Zee Telefilms, Ltd.), STAR Plus has been changed to Hindi language and had launched STAR World.

Some of the shows originate from the United States, but there is also programming from United Kingdom.

Operating Channels

Although the channel shows the same programming, they mostly differ when it comes to showtimes.

  • STAR World Asia - (Broadcast times - HK/SIN and WIB/THAI) simulcast with the Middle-east feed at 24:00 to 06:00 (HK/SIN)
  • STAR World India - (Broadcast times - IND)
  • STAR World Middle-East - (Broadcast times - KSA, UAE and PAK) including Channel [V] programs.
  • STAR World Philippines - same programming with Asia feed, with local commercials and Channel [V] programs, but without the Middle-east simulcast. Selected programs are not available in this feed.

Afghanistan

  • STAR World is available on local cable and Dish TV

India

  • STAR World is available in Digital via DTH operators Dish TV, Big TV and Tata Sky , Tata Sky is also a STAR TV asset.
  • STAR World is available in Hathway CAS on channel no. 025 and also in also by all digital cable providers.
  • STAR World is also available on local cable but only if one buys a set top box and pays lots of money.

Bangladesh

  • STAR World is carried by most of the nationwide cable operators

Hong Kong

  • STAR World is exclusively available on now TV, starting January 26th, 2005.

Serbia

  • STAR World is exclusively available on RTS.

Sri Lanka

  • Star World is available in DTH operator Dialog TV

  • Although STAR World is available in some provincial cable companies, some are showing the Philippine feed and some are also showing the Southeast Asia feed.
  • Its also available in the southern areas in the Philippines.

Papua New Guinea

  • STAR World is available in Hitron Limited.

Singapore

  • STAR World is now available in local cable.

Thailand

  • STAR World is available in TrueVisions and on some provincial cable television networks.

Vietnam

  • STAR World is available in Ho Chi Minh City (through HTVC & SCTV), Ha Noi (through VCTV) and Vietbao CATV.

Myanmar

  • STAR World is available in Rangoon via MRTV-3.
