His job allows him have a laid-back lifestyle and get up late in the morning, both aspects that he values very much. Ambar left home because of her parents' insistence that she get married in her hometown,Banglore, and is currently studying to become a surgeon; she pays for her education by getting a job as an R.J at a local radio station, "Salaam Namaste".
When Nikhil is supposed to do an interview at "Salaam Namaste", he is late (oversleeps) resulting in a very public argument with the RJ, Ambar Malhotra. After several misunderstandings and fights, they begin to fall in love and decide to move in together. It is only after they start living together that they truly begin to understand each other and discover each other's livestyles and perspectives. Hence, the tagline 'Lets get to know each other'. The movie then focuses on how their relationship progesses, until the day Ambar discovers that she is pregnant. However, both are forced to continue to live in the same house for the rest of the year because of their comical and eccentric landlord, Crocodile Dundee, played by Javed Jaffrey.
