The five-member Sudanese Athletics team boasted a World Youth Champion (Abubakr), and two African champions, Aldama and Matthews-Jouda, both of whom were not originally from Sudan. Ismail made the 800 metres final with a top qualifying time, but finished well back of the pack. Aldama also made the finals in the triple jump, and managed a fifth place finish.
