Veerendra was cousin of superstar Dharmendra. Veerendra was like a brother to Dharmendra as Dharmendra was not only born in Phagwara at the same home as Veerendra but he also completed his education while staying with the family of Veerendra. He was married to Pammi Veerender. Together they have 3 children; 2 sons (Randeep & Ramamandeep) and 1 daughter. The oldest of them all, Randeep has already starred in one movie, directed by his mother, Dullha Bhatti (1998). The younger son Ramandeep is a model. Veerendra was assassinated on 6th December 1988 during the shooting of Jatt Tey Zameen. Actually in one scene a real revolver went off when it should have been fake. Many people believe he was shot dead because he was in all Punjabi movies being made, and others became jealous.
