| Blatant copyright violations or images missing source or license information may be "speedied"
If an image is unquestionably copied from another website and no assertion of permission or fair use is made, the image may be speedy deleted under criterion I9. Please tag the image with {{subst:db-copyvio|url=source URL}} and warn the user with {{Nothanks-sd}}. If an image is missing source or license information, place either: or
on the image description page to put the image in the appropriate category. After being tagged for 7 days, the image will be eligible for speedy deletion per criterion 4 for images. Please also notify the uploader so they get a chance to fix the problem(s). The templates {{image source}} and {{image copyright}} are made for this purpose, but feel free to write a message of your own. It is not necessary to warn the uploader about every individual image if they have uploaded several such images, but at least one message telling them that images without source/license will be deleted should be given to each user. |

This page is for listing and discussing images that are used under a non-free license or have disputed source or licensing information. Images are listed here for 14 days before they are processed.
Before listing, check if the image should be listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems (if its source is known and it cannot be used under a free license or fair use doctrine) or at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion (if it's simply unneeded).
To list an image on this page:
| I |
Edit the image page.
Add {{pui|log=2008 July 6}} to the image page. If the image is in use, also add {{puic|Image:Image_name.ext|log=2008 July 6}} to the caption(s). |
|---|---|
| II |
Create its PUI subsection.
Follow this edit link and list the image at the bottom of that page using {{subst:pui2|image=Image_name.ext|reason=reason}} — ~~~~. (remember to exclude the Image: prefix). |
| III |
Give due notice.
Inform the uploader by adding a message to their talk page using {{subst:idw-pui|Image:Image_name.ext}}
|
Unlike Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion the primary purpose of this page is to ascertain the source and/or copyright status of an image. Therefore it is not specifically a vote to keep or delete but a forum for the exploration of the copyright status/source of an image and contributions should not be added solely in those terms.
Listings should be processed by an administrator after being listed for 14 days. Images that are accepted following this fourteen-day period should have {{subst:puir}} added to the image talk page and a copy of the issue and/or discussion that took place here put on the image talk page as well.
Note: Images can be unlisted immediately if they are indisputably in the public domain or licensed under an indisputably free license (GFDL, CC-BY-SA, etc.—see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for more on these). Images which claim fair use must have two people agree to this.
An archiving system was implemented July 2007. For older discussions, see the history pages. For all discussions from July 3, 2007 forward, see the Archive.

SeaWiFS images need to be older than 5 years in order to be in the Public Domain. This image is not sourced, nor was I able to find it online myself, and thus it is impossible to verify if this image is at least 5 years old and in the PD. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 18:29, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
Tagged as public domain image, but source site reads the following:
"Unless stated otherwise, the information provided on or via the portal site www.belgium.be is not subject to copyright law. The information is available free of charge for personal use only, providing that the source is quoted. In cases where prior authorisation is needed for the use or reproduction of certain information, the restrictions on usage are explicitly stated. The use and reproduction of multimedia information (in particular images, sounds and software applications) are always subject to prior approval."
Seems a little contradictory to me, but does specifically say that images are subject to approval, which implies not PD. - AWeenieMan (talk) 18:46, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

The image has a notice saying that it is fair use in the US and public domain in Canada. The fair use rationale makes sense, so it is logical for the image to remain on Wikipedia. But the justification for saying that it is public domain in Canada is that it is a "Canadian image" either made before 1949 or else subject to an expired crown copyright. Yet the description says that it shows the ship in Detroit (not in Canada), and according to the article on the Noronic, the ship was in Detroit in 1949, so the image could date from 1949 even though the ship was destroyed later that year. And no source is given to suggest that crown copyright would apply. So while the use of the image is legitimate based on US fair use, the Canadian status is suspicious. Incidentally, I see that the same contributor has uploaded other images of the Noronic which have been deleted. — 207.176.159.90 (talk) 01:21, 27 June 2008 (UTC).

Image went from a non-free content image to a public domain image after it was tagged for having no rationale. Garion96 (talk) 00:10, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
Today is July 6, 2008. Put new nominations in Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images/2008 July 6 -- if this page doesn't exist yet, please create it. (new nomination) Also, please add it to Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images/NewListings.
If the current date's page has been started without the header, apply {{subst:pui log}} to the top of the day's page.
Please ensure "===July 6===" is at the very top of the new page so that internal page links from the main Possibly unfree images page (the one you're on now) work.
