Hindu related articles of questionable notability

While assessing articles for the project, I have come across numerous articles that are advertisements of sorts for local ashrams and non notable gurus. Currently there are about four or five Hindu gurus and/or ashrams that have little or no notability and little to no reliable sources. I have nominated these articles for deletion. Please feel free to review these nominations at, Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Hinduism. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 14:20, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Ism. I find that it could be sometimes a problem of spelling or a language. What if a guru has notability as in a local language such as say Polish, German, Gujarati or Bengali but not in English media as such, does it warrant the notability on English Wikipedia? Does anyone here can comment on it? Wikidās ॐ 16:34, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
I would tend to have to favor Ism's approach, although I might simply prod them for deletion myself under those circumstances. While it is true that these individuals might be notable in other languages, we can't assume that. If a foreign-language source is provided to estabalish notability, of course, even if you can't read it, that can be sufficient to ensure that the article not be deleted. John Carter (talk) 17:46, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Question - Do any editors know of sources in other languages for the articles posted on, Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Hinduism? Please review per possible sources in other languages, and see if they might add or detract to the notability of the articles for deletion. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 01:10, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
  • New Question While assessing articles I came upon one about a spiritual leader called, Pujya Mota. I have checked sources in english and there are some passing mentions of him, but not much. Do any editors know of any good sources? Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 02:32, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
If there are no objections, then I will put this article up for AFD in the future. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 12:29, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
I can see some sources and considerable references for him and his hariom asrama. And that is without checking 'other spellings' of his name. I would not AfD, just tag the lack or references in the article. Wikidās ॐ 13:30, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. I saw some passing references to his ashram as well, which is why I posted the question. Thank you for your feedback. I will look for references on the ashram as they might add more notability to the article and tag it in the meantime. Thanks again. Ism schism (talk) 13:39, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment Last week, I listed articles for deletion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Hinduism. In particular, I have looked for references for Bihariji Maharaj, Prabhu Jagatbandhu Sundar, Sindhi festivals and Swami Shankarananda Giri. To date, I have not found any. If anyone has any reliable sources or comments, please feel free to share or edit the articles. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 02:15, 22 June 2008 (UTC

Any knowledgable Yoga editors willing to drop by this article and evaluate it? It has no sources but I'm no expert in this area so not sure if he warrants an article or not. Exxolon (talk) 13:05, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Swastika

I've noticed a lot of swastika images on commons that are labelled as a Nazi symbol. I believe many editors on commons might not be aware of the usage of the swastika around the world, so I have initiated a conversation on commons to raise awareness. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

HELP!!! NEEDED for Article on Sikh Rajputs

Someone put a tag on "Sikh Rajputs" article that it will be deleted in five days etc., this article can not be deleted as Sikh Rajputs exist and most claims made in the article are true as well known to local Indians in Punjab only the need is that some interested and knowledgeable editors with access to proper history books etc. can eventually come forward and develop the article properly in time, quoting credible sources. Foreign born and raised editors with no direct local Indian knowledge are requested not to vandalize it as per their own fastly held thoughts and beliefs.

Thanks

Atulsnischal (talk) 06:54, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Feedback at Vithoba

I soon aim to nominate GA Vithoba for FAC. I would like suggestions to improve the article to FA status. Also, i request some copyeditor to go through the article to polish the language, if needed.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 12:13, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Swamithope pathi

The temple is not a mainstream Vishnu temple, not even a direct Vishnu temple at all, but of Ayya Vaikundar, who Ayyavazhis believe to be an avatar of Vishnu. Now, Ayyavazhi is a new religion as per references on the article, so why it be included in Hindu temples? Even if considered a Hindu sect, not part of mainstream Hindu faith. So i think it should not mentioned at Template:Famous Vishnu temples, or Template:Hindu holy cities. Please add your comments to build a consensus on the issue, of inclusion of Swamithope in the templates. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:06, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I very much disagree with the argument that Ayyavazhi is not part of Hinduism. There may be views that Ayyavazhi is itself a religion. But the introduction and the final section ' Social structure of Ayyavazhi'. There are creadible sources provided suggesting Ayyavazhi as a Hindu set and part of Hinduism.
And User:Redtigerxyz, Please define this statement "Even if considered a Hindu sect, not part of mainstream Hindu faith.", Thanks - White Dot...!!!® 17:14, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Sanskrit revival

Sanskrit revival - as this is a phenomenon relevant to the 20th and 21st century, the subject should be expanded to reflect this transition from one century to another. As this is a large subject, the addition of many editors from diverse perspectives would benefit the expansion of this article. Thanks. Ism schism (talk) 18:52, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Hinduism

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Ramakrishna article.

Hello editors, can you pls share your views here Talk:Ramakrishna#totally_disputed_tags_from_Goethean, Talk:Ramakrishna#Quotes_and_spin_off_article, Talk:Ramakrishna#.22Contemporary_Scholars.22.2C_.22spin_off_article.22 -- vineeth (talk) 07:21, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Hindu and Hinduism

Just like Jain redirects to Jainism and Buddhist redirects to Buddhism, I see no reason why Hindu should not redirect to Hinduism. They both cover the same material 100%. One is just the name of the religion while the other is just the name of the people who follow that religion. Can anybody convince me that the two articles need to be separate? If not, I will merge them soon. Thanks GizzaDiscuss © 05:14, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

WP:Swaminarayan

Consensus recently led to the creation of WP:Swaminarayan which will be included as a workgroup under the Hinduism Wikiproject. Please join if you are interested    Juthani1   tcs 21:28, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Help needed! When I added WP:Swaminarayan to the banner list of the article Swaminarayan everything went fine. But when I look at the WP:Swaminarayan page on the editorial review template nothing shows up. I need help with this formatting issue.    Juthani1   tcs 22:07, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Articles beginning 'Anti-christian violence....'

Could someone have a look at these articles, all written by four specific users, with all NPOV edits promptly deleted by themselves or sockpuppets? A lot of anti-India stuff is being propaganda-ised there. I am a 'disgusted' editor.
