Pantheon (Warcraft)

All you want to know about Pantheon (Warcraft)

[modifica] In World of Warcraft?

An apparition of Aman, who may possibly represent Aman'Thul, can be seen in World of Warcraft.

[modifica] Eonar, Patrona di Ogni Vita

Eonar the Lifebinder is a female Vanir Titan, bronze-skinned. She carries an alabaster staff and flowers blossom at her feet. She is the protector of life, nature and healing in the universe and consort of Aman'Thul the Highfather.

Eonar abhors Undead, as she represents the embodiment of life. Among her casting are mass heal among other similar spells. She prefers to keep distance from battle, and is more of a supportive role to her allies in the Pantheon. When enraged and forced to battle though, she is fearsome. She will do anything to confuse and spread her enemies, before engaging in combat.

[modifica] Background

Eonar had a long, bitter feud with Aman'Thul's brother Sargeras before the latter's fall from grace; her presence and personal strength exacerbated the conflict between Aman'Thul and his dark brother.

Eonar's portfolio includes nature, healing, life and, as she is a member of the Pantheon, creation and order. Dwarves and others who respect the titans revere Eonar, if they know of her. Azeroth's red dragons pay her special homage; they honor her memory by constantly battling chaos and destruction.

[modifica] On Azeroth

Approximately 64,001 years before the First War, Eonar gave a portion of her spirit to Alexstrasza so that she could protect life and another portion to Ysera so that she could protect nature and safeguard the Emerald Dream.

[modifica] Madre Terra?

[modifica] Norgannon, Lore-Keeper and Master-Magician

Norgannon the Dreamweaver is a male Aesir Titan. His platinum-skinned body emanates arcane power like a tangible force, making skin prickle and hair stand on end. He wears a long cloak covering his head and a tunic, and has a long beard.

[modifica] Personality

Norgannon is master of the arcane magic, knowledge, secrets and mysteries. In many of the worlds created by the Titans, spellcasters revere him as paragon of their spellcrafts, and whisper his name when casting a spell while others beseech his protection against the corruption of the arcane. Azeroth doesn't know anything about him, except for his Watchers of Uldaman, Ulduar and Uldum.

The titans prefer not to use arcane magic because of its corrupting nature. Aman'Thul the Highfather charged Norgannon with the task of cataloging all spells and magical currents in the universe, including Arcane magic which originates in the Twisting Nether. With the knowledge gathered concerning Arcane magic, the Highfather hopes one day to defeat the Burning Legion and other enemies. Norgannon knows almost everything and is passionless, his face expressionless and rigid. He is the historian of the Titans and holds a massive disc in his hand with sculpted glyphs and recordings, similar to the Discs of Norgannon within Uldaman.

[modifica] In combat

Against serious opposition, Norgannon gates in additional titans, usually Eonar, Aggramar and Aman'Thul. He avoids melee, and prefers to cast from a ranged distance flying above and afar. If in jeopardy, he casts mirror image as an illusion and casts AoE(area of effect) while the other Titans take care of melee. He can teleport his fellow Titans to safety if needed. Polymorph, project image, phase, and many other spells described in the Warcraft RPG book Shadows & Light.

[modifica] Inspiration

He may be inspired by the Viking Aesir Bragi, god of poetry and lore, or Mirmir, God of Runes and knowledge.

[modifica] Khaz'goroth, Shaper and Forger of the World

Khaz'goroth, shaper of mountains and canyons, is a male Vanir Titan and the ultimate craftsman. He is a master of many arts and disciplines; with Eonar's help, he created Azeroth's dwarves, troggs, and perhaps, mountain giants. His bronze-skinned body sparks flames. His weapon is a giant smith-hammer named Vulraiis. A fiery, brooding entity, Khaz'goroth loves working at his forge and listening to tales of heroism and valor. During the empowering of the Dragon Aspects, Khaz'goroth granted dominion over the earth and deep places of the world to the noble Neltharion, the Aspect of the Black Dragonflight... who later became known as Deathwing.

Among Khaz'goroth's combat strategies are the summoning of Elemental swarms, Wish (teleport) and dispel magic, imprisonment, crushing fist, and Avatar before engaging melee. He is wise in building architecture and engineering. He created and shaped the mountains of Azeroth with help of his creations, the Earthen.

He was once in charge of a Titan facility under Bael Modan.

Khaz'goroth is most likely based on the Greco-Roman god of fire and the forge, Hephaestus(Latin Vulcan).

[modifica] Vulraiis

Khaz’goroth useing Vulraiis at his forge This article or section contains information taken from the Warcraft RPG books which may not be found in other sources of lore.

Khaz’goroth the Shaper crafted this enormous hammer from ultrapure thorium, after which Aman’Thul and Norgannon worked together to enchant it. The hammer’s appearance suggests a smith’s tool more than a weapon, and indeed Khaz’goroth uses it at his forge. When he wields it in combat, however, it causes great seismic eruptions and splitting earthquakes.

[modifica] Sargeras

Per approfondire, vedi la voce Sargeras.

The Titans' greatest warrior, defender of their worlds, who left their ranks and became their greatest traitor.

[modifica] Aggramar

Aggramar is a male Vanir Titan. Bronze-skinned, wrapped in a golden toga. Aggramar is a former lieutenant of Sargeras and now charged as Champion of the Pantheon, taking the position left vacant by Sargeras after his departure. Aggramar's task is to combat the Burning Legion and demonic taint. Very bland and unemotional, Aggramar is much more cool-headed than his former master. He follows orders and implements tactics in a firm, professional manner, performing all duties as they should be done. The only emotion he feels is hate: he despises Sargeras with every ounce of his metallic blood. This rage could cloud his judgement and be his doom some day.

[modifica] Aggramar's sword

Aggramar's weapon is a half-broken sword, once whole. When Sargeras was member of the Pantheon, far before he created the Burning Legion, his semi-sapient sword was known as Gorshalach (Dark Render) -- the most powerful weapon in the universe.

When Sargeras fell to the corruption of the Nathrezim in the Twisting Nether, Gorshalach sundered itself, splitting into two halves. The blade preferred to split in half, rather than to serve Sargeras in his pursuit of evil. Aggramar the Avenger now holds the hilt, Taeshalach (Flame Rend), while Sargeras holds the fragment of the blade, Gorribal (Dark Seether). Taeshalach still has most of the blade attached to it, with the tip broken off; it is legendary how deadly the jagged end is. Aggramar knows that if one day he united both halves, Gorshalach would be reborn. To do so, he would have to defeat Sargeras once and for all.

[modifica] Combat

Among Aggramar's abilities, in combat, he can summon a meteor swarm at his enemies and he can teleport. He uses the Avatar ability to shapeshift for melee and uses Spellbreaker against spellcasters. He has other powers and abilities explained in more in detail in the Warcraft RPG, Shadows & Light.

[modifica] Role in the Pantheon

Aggramar's main role in the Pantheon is to be their Champion; to eliminate the forces of destruction and dissolution in the universe, especially the Burning Legion, and to protect order created by the Titans from chaos by using his combat skills and might. Few on Azeroth know of Aggramar, though as a member of the Pantheon he receives the respect due to all powerful titans. Other worlds seeded by the Titans revere him and cry his name when engaging in combat against the Burning Legion.

[modifica] Origin

Aggramar might be based upon the Viking god Thor, or he could be based upon the war incarnation of the Viking god Freyr. In Norse mythology, Freyr is the leader of the Vanir. He is also the nemesis of Surtr, who can be equated with Sargeras, and has the most powerful sword in Nordic mythology, which is also sapient like Taeshalach. Freyr's sword is one of a pair, meant to combat the sword of Surtr in Ragnarok, as Taeshalach is meant to combat Gorribal. Since Freyr is a Vanir rather then a Aesir, he may fit Aggramar better than Thor or Tyr, who are both Aesir.

[modifica] In World of Warcraft

One of the realms in World of Warcraft is named after Aggramar.

[modifica] Golganneth

Golganneth the Thunderer is the son of Aman'Thul and Eonar. The giant Male Aesir Titan is platinum-skinned and his weapon is a massive horn he holds on his hand. Lightning flows constantly off his eyes. Golganneth created the skies and seas of Azeroth and all the living creatures of the sea 147,000 years ago. Father creator of the Sea Giants.

Golganneth takes joy in his creations and supports the Pantheon's mission to bring order to chaos. He has a massive laugh, which he uses often, and a fine sense of humor. Golganneth is a diligent, energetic titan who takes great joy in all he does. Yet, within, he loves the fury of nature. He engages combat by blowing his massive viking-like horn weapon known as Shargahn. The horn's sound can shatter mountains, but he prefers not to use it often as his duty is to create, not to destroy. If possible, he swoops above and around any conflict, directing Shargahn's massive storms and creatures. Golganneth is the embodiment of thunderstorms and lightning, storms and winds. When angered, he is truly frightening.

Azeroth's sea giants venerate Golganneth and hold small ceremonies several times a year in his honor. These ceremonies involve the crafting and sounding of musical horns and the feeding of small fish.

Golganneth is mostly based on the "thunderer"-archetype common to many mythologies, of whom Thor is the most well-known, though the prominence of the horn implies a reference to the Norse god Heimdall (who does not match the archetype). His province of the sea and storms resembles the Norse god Njord.

This massive horn is crafted of some silvery, alien material; light reflecting from its surface breaks into its component colors in a stunning display. Golganneth the Thunderer carries Shargahn, and the horn can shatter mountains, summon storms of incredible fury and beckon the creatures of the deep.
