Rachel Shelley nasce il 25 agosto del 1969 a Swindon, Inghilterra. Frequenta l'Università di Sheffield dove si laurea in inglese e arti drammatiche. Partecipa a diversi film prodotti in Inghilterra e ottiene qualche piccolo ruolo anche negli Stati Uniti (The Calling); inoltre ha partecipato al film italiano "Canone inverso". Il vero successo arriva nel 2004, quando viene scritturata per la serie americana "The L Word", già attiva da un anno con ampia popolarità in tutto il mondo. Attualmente continua a lavorare per The L Word e nel frattempo il suo personaggio, Helena Peabody, ricca ereditiera, è cresciuto fino a diventare uno dei più amati dai fan della serie.
